‘Windows XP Performer’ 15 minute film (2020).
Recorded and performed by Ellen in a real location. Framing the hill and sky background as her home that she must wake and perform on a continuous loop, the performer exists in an altered reality in-between humanity, technology and nature, where time is looped.
Start Button
It begins.
A race with the setting sun.
Who controls who?
No pause.
Only adrenaline.
Fear. Excitement.
Crouch.
Crawl.
Look up. Look around.
Where am I?
A surreal land
but mine.
This expanse of green.
The sun waits.
Limbs twitch.
Whip, sway, spiral.
Not mine
but rising from deep within.
Run.
Camera placed.
Centre of the field.
I must perform.
The need takes me.
To express. To dissolve.
To become.
Time folds.
I am strings.
Pulled by earth.
By screen.
By something unseen.
Hours vanish.
Body untouched.
Numb.
Weightless.
Ecstatic.
The light falls.
No.
Off.
Over.
Time returns.
Matter presses in.
The force drains.
Flesh remains.
Raw. Vulnerable.
Sensation floods back.
I flee.
I run again
this time into reality.
